Job Description Grameen Technology Center – AppLab IndonesiaJob Type: 6 month contract, with opportunity for extension About the Grameen Technology Center and the Application LaboratoryThe Grameen Technology Center, an initiative of the Grameen Foundation, focuses on technology that makes microfinance operations more efficient, creates income‐generating opportunities for the poor and provides poor communities access to information and knowledge. Our efforts support the Grameen Foundation’s mission to empower the world’s poorest people to lift themselves out of poverty with dignity through access to financial services and information. Building upon over five years of experience developing networks of Village Phone Operators, GTC created an “Application Laboratory” (AppLab) in Uganda to guide the development of value‐added data services and related business models and to prototype, test, validate sustainable business models, and scale mobile applications and services that contribute to poverty alleviation.  AppLab has been working with partners on‐the‐ground in Uganda since September 2007 to develop agricultural, health, and other applications for widely available mobile phones, conduct market trials, and pilot mobile information services.  In Indonesia, the AppLab is building on a growing network of Village Phone Operators, who will serve as a testbed and first users of the applications we are building.  The Product Manager will be a critical part of this project’s success.    Please visit www.applab.org for additional information on the AppLab projects.   We are seeking a Product Manager for this exciting opportunity to manage key aspects of the projectThe Product Manager will have an outstanding opportunity to gain first‐hand knowledge of using mobile phones for development – while actively contributing to efforts of the AppLab team. You will have opportunities to tackle some of the team’s biggest challenges, as you will lead all aspects of Product Management, Test of Concept and Marketing for at least 1 mobile application.  Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: Pilot preparation; Pilot participant recruitment and deployment• Interview possible users and pilot participants about their needs

·  Develop and publish pilot plan, including:o    Key hypotheses to testo    Pilot locations and justificationso    Characteristics of effective pilot participantso    Sources of pilot participantso    Logistics of pilot operationso    Training plans for pilot participantso    Budgeto    Timelineo    Resources Product Management and Marketing·   Assist with development of product spec documents, and serve as interface to engineering team developing the application·   Provide feedback to on product/service features, incorporating user/pilot input, to ensure they best meet the needs of users in the Indonesian market·   Plan and execute marketing campaigns and strategies (alongside local partners) to introduce the app/service and maximize awareness and usage of the service·   Test pricing models to understand elasticity of demand and ability/willingness to pay by both employers and job seekers  Pilot Participant Training and Support• Develop and conduct initial and on‐going training for pilot participants, including developing materials• Conduct field visits to provide one-on-one training to pilot participants and their clients• Report and take steps to resolve network and other issues Monitoring and Evaluation; Synthesis and Analysis• Track usage reports• Create a system for logging and monitoring Pilot Participant and client experiences• Work with Program Manager to develop a strategy for assessing metrics• Summarize interview findings and communicate implications for project• Work with Program Manager to analyze and present findings
Qualifications Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate enjoys doing outreach in poor communities, has experience leading trainings, and is comfortable traveling and working in poor and/or remote areas. The candidate should have a strong capacity to integrate field findings into program and product design. She or He must be fluent in Bahasa and an excellent knowledge of English. The Product Manager will need to work well independently as well as be a collaborative member of a larger team. The candidate should be a structured problem-solver, have excellent communication skills and be able to manage multiple work streams with ease, tracking and meeting project deadlines across a range of activities. Given the need to interface between users, other team members and engineering teams, the Product Manager should have experience working in a software development environment, ideally in mobile technologies, and be familiar with project management and the general software development lifecycle.

Qualification
• University degree with at least seven years of professional experience working in a fast‐paced environment
• A self-starter, who knows how to get things done and requires minimal day-to-day guidance and is a proactive problem-solver
• Strong project management capabilities
• Experience, ability and desire to work in poor communities
• Demonstrated ability to collect and synthesize user feedback and data
• Preference for people with information and communication technology experience, ideally in mobile
• Fluency in oral and written Bahasa is required; working knowledge of English required.
