1.1.Organizational Background

 

Founded in 1958, Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC) is a non-governmental organization that works to address global challenges in education, health, and economic opportunity. EDC has over 350 projects in 35 countries with approximately 1400 employees worldwide. EDC’s Health and Human Development Division Regional Office in Bangkok has been in operation since 2003. EDC HHD’s regional programs in Asia focus on four key strategic areas: health, including HIV/AIDS, education, workforce development; and livelihoods.

 

1.2.Objective

 

The objective of this consultancy is to provide EDC with strategies and recommendations for its point of entry into the Indonesian market.  The consultant will conduct research, including tele-interviews, to prepare a report on the following in Indonesia:

  • funders (including multilateral and bilateral agencies, foundations, and corporations),
  • INGOs and for-profit development firms (potential partners and competitors), and
  • local NGOs.

 

This research and report will focus on the sectors of health (including HIV/AIDS), democracy and governance, civil society/NGO capacity building, micro-finance, and livelihoods.

1.4.Work plan

A detailed work plan will be prepared by the consultant/s and delivered to EDC, based on the present terms of reference and on the time expected to carry out the study.

 

1.5. Presentation of the report

A printed and digital (CD) copy of the report must be presented to EDC’s office in Bangkok. The copy should be presented in Word 2003 format. A draft should be presented on which EDC provides feedback. The final report must be approved by EDC’s office in Bangkok.

 

1.6. Form of payment

EDC will pay 25% at contract signing, 25% upon submission of report framework, and 50% upon presentation and approval of the report, no later than 10 days after the submission of the study.

 

1.7. Date of completion

The deadline for submitting the study will be stipulated in the contract signed between the consultant and EDC. The contract will be signed at EDC’s office in Thailand. The length of the full-time consultancy should be no more than three (3) weeks.

 

Qualifications Qualifications and Experience
a) A deep understanding of the situation in Indonesia and its inclusion and possibilities at a regional level, including civil society and social movements.

b)Prior experience doing a similar donor mapping project

c)Minimum of 5 years of fundraising and international development experience (including direct fundraising, donor management, and proposal writing).

d)Ability to synthesize information, write well, and prepare clear and concise reports.

e)University degree is required, degree in a related field is preferred.

f)Fluency in English is required.

g)Indonesian residence preferred. Indonesian nationality and fluency in Bahasa Indonesia would be an advantage.

h)Must be able to travel to Bangkok, Thailand as necessary.
